Why We Founded Hamlet Respite Farm:

Community Support and Inclusion

To provide support and an inclusive environment for individuals in the community and from a far, including those with varying abilities and needs.

Therapeutic and Holistic Approach

The founders have aimed to create a therapeutic space that goes beyond traditional care, incorporating nature, farming, and outdoor activities to promote holistic well-being.

Flexibility and Personalised Care

We wanted to establish a place that offers flexibility in care options, allowing participants to choose between guided and self-directed respite experiences based on their preferences and goals.

Skill Development and Empowerment

Hamlet Respite Farm is designed to empower individuals by offering individualised skill development programs, helping them to acquire new abilities and build confidence for a more independent life.

Enhancing Quality of Life

The creation of Hamlet Respite Farm is rooted in a commitment to improving then overall quality of life for participants by providing a positive and engaging living environment.

Provide Respite

Provide respite for the participant from their day-to-day life to help assist their development in life skills, have time in nature, and provide respite for caregivers.

Integration with Nature

Studies have proven to show the benefits of nature for NDIS participants, aged care clients, and early-onset dementia participants. Research has shown that Farms were identified as contributing positively to mental and social wellbeing of participants.

In several studies, the potential benefits of care farms for people with dementia in terms of health and well-being have been evaluated. These studies suggest care farms support contact with nature and anima ls, time spent outdoors, activity engagement, physical activity, structure, social interactions, healthy eating, and a sense of meaning in life. As such, they differ from regular dementia care environments where lower levels of physical activity and activity engagement, less time spent outdoors, and fewer social interactions have been observed. Furthermore, participants and their family caregivers experience less stigmatising because of dementia, since the care farm environment is a “normal” non-institutional kind of place. Instead, people with dementia may feel like a volunteer or an employee rather than a patient with cognitive and functional impairments. People with dementia additionally feel recognised, understood, and seen as people who can deliver a meaningful contribution.
